🌍 May 11 – World Endangered Species Day: Why It Matters to All of Us

a large body of water

Every year on May 11, we celebrate World Endangered Species Day β€” a day to raise awareness about the thousands of plant and animal species that are currently at risk of extinction. In French Polynesia, this day carries even more weight, as our ecosystems are both incredibly rich and deeply fragile.

🐒 Living Treasures in Danger

Polynesia is home to a wide variety of unique and endemic species found nowhere else on Earth. But sadly, many of them are now endangered due to human activity, climate change, and marine pollution.

Some iconic species we need to protect include:

  • Green and hawksbill turtles, which we often spot during our tours

  • The Napoleon wrasse, a majestic reef fish threatened by overfishing

  • The Tahiti monarch, a rare forest bird with fewer than 100 individuals left in the wild

🌊 Tourism Can Be Part of the Solution

At Moana Adventure Tours, we believe that responsible tourism can help protect biodiversity. Here’s how we contribute:

  • Our guides are trained to follow respectful wildlife observation practices

  • We educate guests before every tour about preserving the environment

  • We never feed wild animals, so their natural behavior remains undisturbed

  • We collect floating litter when we come across it at sea

Small actions can make a big difference. Every visitor can become a nature ambassador.

🌺 On May 11, Let’s Commit Together

For this special day, we’re shining a spotlight on the endangered species you may have already seen with us β€” or might meet during your next adventure.

πŸ’š Together, let’s protect the amazing life of our lagoons, so future generations can marvel at these wonders too.
