Coral reef conservation and the importance of coral cuttings on Bora-Bora.
In June, our staff had the privilege of taking part in coral prevention and cuttings at the IC Moana hotel with our external partner Sea Narea, an inspiring experience dedicated exclusively to the coral reef.
Coral reefs are home to an incredible diversity of marine life, provide natural protection against storms and waves, and are a vital source of food for many coastal communities. However, due to climate change, pollution, overfishing and other human activities, corals are under threat.
Coral cuttings are an effective technique that involves taking healthy coral fragments and cultivating them under optimal conditions to promote their growth. Once they have reached a sufficient size, these cuttings can be re-implanted on damaged reefs to help them regenerate.
We are fortunate to live among some of the world’s most spectacular coral environments. It’s our responsibility to preserve this heritage for future generations. Each of us can contribute in our own way, whether by reducing our environmental footprint, participating in beach clean-up initiatives, or supporting coral restoration projects such as cuttings.
